A defiant unbeaten knock of 64 by captain Saurabh Rawat went in vain as Odisha lost to host Punjab by an innings and 168 runs on the second and lasts day of their Pool-A league match of the 6th All-India U-19 Dhruv Pandove Trophy Cricket Tournament at Dhruv Pandove Cricket Stadium in Patiala today.
Electing to bat, Punjab rode on a century each by captain Anmolpreet Singh (157) and Gurjot Singh (122) and a half-century by Subhman Gill (52) to muster a huge total of 403 for six declared. Suryakant Samal was the most successful bowler for Odisha, bagging three wickets for 106 runs.
Replying to the strong total, Odisha came under pressure and were bowled out for 88 in the first innings. After conceding a lead of 315 runs, Odisha put up slightly better performance in the second innings being dismissed for 147.
Left-arm spinner Abhishek Sharma was the star of the Punjab victory with a match haul of 10 wickets for 41 runs. He scalped six wickets for five runs in the first innings, which saw him achieve two hat-tricks. The win fetched Punjab seven points, while Odisha drew blank. Odisha will play their third and last league match against Himachal Pradesh on September 6 and 7.
